With Love Halston Inc. is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to provide scholarships to emerging design students and to foster educational platforms on the history of American fashion with a focus on Halston, one of America’s most iconic designers.
Halston personally appointed his niece, Lesley Frowick, as custodian of his archives. Her mission is to promote Halston’s legacy at the highest level. She has now teamed up with fashion industry experts Steve Gold, Audrey Schilt, Patrick Morgan and Scott Vogel to launch the With Love Halston scholarship initiative. The team’s aim is to educate students about Halston’s contribution to fashion through lectures, books, toolkits and the promotion of sustainable practices. Through global outreach and fundraising events, With Love Halston aims to shape the future voices of fashion and design.
The Halston Contest offers fashion design students the opportunity to create Halston-inspired garments using sustainable Ultrasuede, the fabric made popular by Halston himself in the 1970s. The challenge allows students to gain hands-on experience with a luxury brand and aims to expose emerging designers to the genius of Halston. Eight students are choosen to create clothing inspired by Halston. Three of them will be awarded for the most creative and marketable product and will receive first, second and third place prizes of US 5,000, US 2,000 and US 1,000 respectively.
In 2023, With Love Halston has teamed up with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, Indiana University in Indiana, USA, and the Marangoni Institute in Paris, France. The three finalists of the contest received a special scholarship and the opportunity to have their fashion illustrations published in the FIDA, The Fashion Illustration Drawing Awards publication.
In 2024 With Love Halston partnered with Istituto Marangoni Mumbai, India, Istituto Europeo di Design, Barcelona, Edinburgh College of Art and Design, Scotland, Villioti Fashion Institute, Johannesburg, South Africa and Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York.
The contest received a grant from the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation (NaEPF) to cover expenses and scholarships in memory of Elsa Peretti and Halston’s long-standing friendship.
“Halston was very American, a brilliant man and a very hard worker, I learned all my discipline from him.”
